At the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction event a few months ago, Rob Halford stated that all he wanted was a photo with Dolly Parton, but he ended up with so much more. Parton sang the hit song “Jolene” while disguised as a member of Judas Priest, and The Metal God was asked to sing alongside her.
Inductees into the Rock Hall’s Class of 2022 included Parton, Pat Benatar, Lionel Richie, Duran Duran, Eminem, and a few more during the event on Saturday, November 5, in Los Angeles. Halford, Brandi Carlile, Pink, Simon LeBon of Duran Duran, Sheryl Crow, Annie Lennox of Eurythmics, Pat Benatar, and Neil Giraldo joined Dolly Parton for her performance of “Jolene” at the star-studded event.
The singer-songwriter, who is mostly recognised as a country music performer, wore a complete black leather suit that was adorned with jewels, chains, and other adornments. Given that Priest were one of the pioneers of the heavy metal attire inspired by biker culture, she and Halford sparkled together, possibly making them the most glamorous couple of the evening.
Halford was able to post a photo of them from the evening with Parton as a result. You may see it and a video of the performance below.
Parton not only dressed like a rock star but also performed the song “Rockin'” live at the ceremony. The musician first turned down her Rock Hall nomination because she didn’t feel worthy of the honour, but she has since vowed to release a rock album in order to live up to the designation.
She told Pollstar before the induction ceremony, “I had to record a rock album, because if I’m going to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I’m going to by God deserve it!” “In order to perform during the wedding, I even created a song about the entire affair. An excellent, endearing rock and roll tune that will probably be on the rock and roll CD. You know I’ve been rockin’ since the day I was born, it’s called “Rockin” Listening to Elvis, Journey, Chuck Berry, and all those other amazing performers. It’s a great little rock tune, so I’ll have something entertaining to play off of to break up the tension.”
